Free Tips for Your Website Success

Having been in the web design business for more than eight years, we know what it takes to build a professional website that is easy to navigate, can be indexed by search engines, and portrays professionalism to your site visitor.

1.  Define The Purpose Of Your Website

To begin the website process, you must first establish the purpose of your website.  Do you want it to bring you new business, be for information purposes only, use it as an Intranet, or use it for managing projects and team collaboration, e-commerce, etc.

2.  Organize Your Website

Take the time to layout the navigation of your website. Whether it be by departments, services your offer, or by products, good site organization leads to easy site navigation.

3.  Writing Your Site Content

Before you write your site content, you need to make a list of up to 30 key words and 30 key phrases you think potential visitors or customers will use to search for your website at search engines and directories.  This one step is vital to your search engine rankings and people finding your website.  Now you're ready to write your site content.

Within your content on each page, include as many key words and key phrases as possible without sounding ridiculous.  Use our example below to get an idea.  This is our first paragraph on our home page, which includes many key words and key phrases that people may use to search for our site.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Web Design Studio provides website development, web hosting, e-commerce, search engine optimization, ongoing maintenance, Intranet development, website consulting and coaching, and Internet marketing for organizations both large and small across the globe. Atlanta Web Design Studio can quickly deliver a web solution for your organization's unique needs backed up by unmatched personalized customer support.

Having a lot of written text on your site will also enhance it to be found via search engines.  It's the text, not the pretty graphics and images that will help people find your site.

4.  Adding the Metatags to Your Site

Behind every web page (in the html code), you must have metatags to be found and indexed by search engines.  The following metatags are a must for every page on your website.  They work together with your text to help you to be found:

Title - This is the page title that appears in the top bar of most browsers.  You'll want your page title to use as many key words or phrases as possible.  It doesn't need to be a complete sentence.  For example, our page title for our home page is

Atlanta Web Design Studio, Atlanta Web Designer, Atlanta Web Development, Atlanta Georgia, E-Commerce, Web Hosting

Or you can use your title as a mini sales pitch such as this one for an illusionist:

Astonishing Entertainment from Award Winning Illusionist, Magician, Entertainer, & Comedian, Tony Chapek

The page title shows up on search engine results.

Key words and phrases - your list of up to 30 key words and phrases will also need to be added to your html metatags.  You can add more if necessary, but 30 is a good number to shoot for.  Put yourself in your potential customer's shoes and try to come up with what they might search for to find your organization.

Page Description - Your page description should be no more than 3 or 4 sentences and include as many key words and phrases as possible.  See our example below:

Amazing, innovative comedy magic from unique entertainer, Tony Chapek. This Atlanta magician is an award winning magician, unique comedian and corporate entertainer with an original entertainment concept. His interactivevideo magic is innovative magic that makes him a great trade show magician, meeting and event entertainer, and technology magician.

Notice how he incorporates as many key phrases and words as possible into his description.

Important:  Your key words and phrases, page title, page description, and the text on your page all work together to bring you traffic!
